Mechanical Traction
Mechanical traction is applying tension to a body segment through a rope attached to various straps, halters, or devices. The therapeutic effect of traction is a function of the position of the spine, amount of traction force and length of time the force is applied. Mechanical traction results in longitudinal separation of cervical or lumbar spinal segments with associated ligament, discal, neural, and muscular structures.
