EMG/NCV

—Needle EMG or needle electromyography is used to detect electrical abnormalities within an individual muscle which may indicate nerve damage or other pathological process.  EMG tests allow you to observe motor units.  NCV stands for nerve conduction velocity and tests the speed of conduction of action potentials along a nerve.  It tests large diameter, myelinated fibers which can be motor or sensory nerves.  NCV tests are used to evaluate disease or damage to peripheral nerves.  The results of a NCV test can be use to help diagnose severity and location of peripheral nerve entrapment
